Hardwell’s Thoughts on the Current State of EDM

Dutch DJ and producer Hardwell has been the topic of conversation on multiple occasions lately as friends and colleagues living on the east coast have been buying their tickets to see him play at the Sands Casino in Bethlehem, PA as well as his current position as the #1 DJ in the world according to DJ Mag so we decided to dig into what his plans were for the future as the most sought after DJ in the world.

With a real world name of Robbert van de Corput, reveals that he is “a bit sick” of the electronic dance music trends circulating at the moment after he opens up about the current state of EDM. He has echoed similar views in recent interviews and has admitted that he’s trying to push the boundaries by experimenting with new styles.

Of course I’m going to experience lot of like new, different styles. Y’know I’m a bit sick of the same formula that’s going on in EDM right now so I’m just trying to push boundaries and look at what’s going on in the rest of the world. Even in the hip hop scene and the trance scene and try to combine as much as possible.

Hardwell joins a long list of big names that are also trying to experiment with different genres like Steve Angello, Avicii and Steve Aoki just to name a few. These experimental ideas can’t be the only thing that projected him from #5 to #1 in 2013 so what else has allowed him to be coined the #1 DJ in the world?

Whenever I work with different artists I expand as a song writer, as a producer, and I always want to try and find that bridge between my world and their world, Hardwell explains to Entertainment Tonight.

Whatever he is doing it’s obviously working but building off other artists of different genres is definitely helping him push the boundaries of electronic dance music.
