EDM Gets a Huge Push from Sony’s Ultra Investment

Ultra Music, which includes label, publishing, and artist management arms, has joined forces with Sony Music Entertainment last week, forming a collaboration in favor of EDM that the press is calling it “a groundbreaking new global strategic relationship.” Ultra Music has already given electronic dance music a mainstream platform in the last few years and is known for signing Deadmau5, Kaskade and Steve Aoki.

One of the most important details of the deal is that Ultra Music’s founder, Patrick Moxey, was made the president of the Electronic Music Division for Sony and will report directly to CEO Doug Morris. This not only will help the artists that are already signed with Ultra Music but it will also benefit those that are already under the Sony label as well as attract many others in the near future. For EDM in general this should work wonders for the industry to get a direct push by Sony’s international system.

Ultra’s revenues have been rapidly growing alongside the ever so popular EDM industry so Sony hopes to capitalize on this lucrative market as well. It’s an enormous global market so the potential is exponential at this point which is hard to believe since EDM has already grown so large in recent years. If you read up on Billboard’s interview with Patrick Moxey he mentions how Ultra Music will help establish Sony within electronic dance music in the U.S. and Canada and how Sony will allow Ultra to grow internationally.

With collaborations happening throughout the world in order to strengthen the industry of EDM, the future will only get bigger and better so join the party by joining and following our community here at
